The Location
To accommodate the party Friday night we moved to #240 under the bridge. Although the weather was perfect this would be a great spot in the rain. Also our new location gave us viewing of the 10ft trailers trying to fit under a 9ft bridge. I quit counting at three.
The Party![]()
Thank you to SpecChem and sponsoring us in this contest. In exchange we cooked meat for their Friday party. 45 racks of ribs, 6 brisket and 50lbs of pork loin fed the crowd as they watch live music by the North Johnson County All Stars. A good time was had by all.
The Contest
After our “middle of the pack” finishes all year, we had come to the conclusion that we are cooking “incredible average contest meat”. So without much expectation we were hoping to get a little lucky and score well in a couple categories. But just when we thought we had everything figured out, reality smacked us in the head. And we placed 416th out of 500 teams. We received our worst score of the year in each of the four categories. Are you kidding me? The biggest contest of the year and we turn in our worst meat of the year. Thank god for the beer huh?
The saving grace of the weekend was sausage; we placed 18th of 300+ teams. So looking at the bright side we did get our first American Royal call and ribbon. I guess we’ll try again next year.
Once again here are our pictures of people having a good time.
