Temps in the low 80's!
For the first time in many years we were not beaten down by hundred degree heat. So we had a great turn out for the party friday night and our guests were treated to Roger on his keyboard. Then Saturday morning we had showers that forced the park to cut power and our little Honda generator worked its magic to keep the rotisserie turning. One notable event from the weekend ... Larry ... "Mr. I don't sleep at contests" awoke. Notice I said awoke, even though he doesn't sleep at contests .. even though he denies falling asleep on friday ... even though we have pictures of him sleeping. He awoke to his shoe laces being tied together. :-)
Falling a sleep in the Purgatory site is not a good idea.
Food turned out ok with nothing giving us the wow factor that we want. So we sat through awards without much expectations and indeed never heard our name called. The rest of the team disappointed, headed back to our site to load up and I went to congratulate our friends at Purple Wave for a 4th place call in pork. As I was waiting I learned that we had finished 12 place which is our best finish at this contest boasting 195 teams. When I returned to the site to a bunch of sad faces I gladly shared the 12th place news. Something we had worked hard at was getting rid of the one bad score that kept us out of nice finishes last year. So again we don't have any ribbons to show for our work but we achieved a nice goal in being consistent.
